The Jungle Book review

Image
For Indians in the 90s, the song 'Jungle Jungle pata chala hai' was one of the most sweetest memory of their amazing childhood. (Yes, the kinds Y-gen would never have :p) The amazing animated cartoon that made us run from the playgrounds to sit in front of the TV before the titles concluded. The nostalgia of those times have given a great advantage to the new "Jungle Book', live-action movie by Jon Favreau. Now, my nostalgia has another story to it. The very first English movie that I saw ever, in a then-posh A/c movie theatre called 'Sreedhar' on the Marine Drive in Kochi was....make a guess.....the 1994 'Jungle Book'. And how much I loved it then. (Surprised to know just recently, that the main lady lead in that movie was our Evil Queen Cersei, Lena Headey.) Remember that it was the first English movie, I saw in a theatre, and for those days the standards of that movie was very high. Real animals, great action scenes, good vfx. How much I w...

A little 'Batman vs Superman' preview

Image
With just about a week for release, expectations from 'Batman Vs Superman - The Dawn of Justice' is pretty high. The advance booking has been a rage and it has already been slated to surpass the massive hits of previous years which were released in the Summer. Therefore, before the release, I would like to lay down my expectations from this movie. Let me tell you that I am as much as excited about this outing, as I am skeptic. My excitement is an obvious emotion as there is going to be lots of 'bang' and 'boom' in this movie. That means great visual effects. Also the fact that this is a reinvention for two of the most adored superheroes in the world. People would naturally be wondering about who is the strongest among these powerful and dark heroes. Also, somehow I am convinced through the trailers that the clash between these iconic figures is not of some random picking, but the story-tellers might have a good reason to put them against one another. The v...

The 'Versus' phenomena

Image
Movies based on comic books have come a long way since Adam West's 'Batman', and in the current century ever since 'Spiderman' swung his way into the box office, there has been a huge blockbuster war between the two big comic giants: Marvel and DC. It was one thing when Marvel upped its game and left its mark by bringing in an Assemble of superheroes in 'Avengers', which until this year DC hasn't been able to bring to the market, but now Marvel has increased the stakes by putting them against each other. Now, this is where DC might have fallen behind, if they hadn't thought ahead. The very first assemble from DCs side actually sees the superheroes against each other. Well, DC had to keep up with Marvel, and actually their movie releases a good one month before Marvel's too. 2016 is the year where major comic sequels are interested in the 'Versus'-war. DC on March 25th will pit 'Batman vs Superman'. The 'BvS-Dawn o...

Oscar Opinion, Predictions and the Winner 2016

Image
It's already the Red Carpet live on the TV, and I realize that the list that I wanted to do for a long time is still pending. But, I still got to do this. So keeping it all short. Here we have this years Oscar hopefuls. I give you my prediction, my actual opinion about who should win and later once the winners are announced, I will update with the actual winner. So, let's get started. Best Movie  Eight movies fight it out for the coveted prize this evening Opinion: Amazing films happened this year. "The Revenant', 'The Big Short', 'Mad Max' and 'The Spotlight' are all my favourites, but I think the two most important stories that was told this year was the Wall Street Drama, 'The Big Short' and the journalism Drama, 'Spotlight'. Of the two, on the whole 'The Big Short' stood out as a complete film in all departments. Cast, story, edit. My vote is for 'The Big Short'. Prediction:  On the top is...

Avengers final trailer turns the tables in Avengers favor

Image
The two big trailers we saw in the past couple of months, for Avengers saw the invincible tea bowing down to a great AI threat Ultron. From the brooding ambiance all through those trailers there was a feeling of defeat of Avengers. But now Marvel has come out with the latest trailer which turns the tables. It not only shows the Avengers are all one team, (even the ones currently in doubt), but also shows us some stunning action where they 'kick ass' of Ultron and his minions. Watch this new trailer here:

'Gotham' desperate to revive itself; brings in more Supervillians soon

Image
'Gotham' was having a very bad run during the pre- mid season episode. It was dragging and boring, and none of the characters made any real impact in the notorious world of Gotham City. The writers were earning a lot of flak for their poor imaginations. It seems desperate, but they felt the need to invite more super-villains into the TV series much sooner than expected. And how did these changes do for the series? Last week, we got to see the beginning of the two part introduction into the life of young Jonathan Crane aka future Scarecrow. It began with his father trying to get rid of his fears through vast immoral experimentations. He convinced his teenage son that all his experiments were for the better of mankind. Dr. Gerald Crane, father of Johnathan invents a serum that will bring about the worst fears in your lives. This episode and the next, where we see Johnathan turn into what he was destined to be, are the best episodes till now in 'Gotham'. Not only ...
